4th Grade Sleepover

All fourth graders received this form at their first library class of the year. If your child lost theirs, here’s the information again!

Dear Parents of Fourth Graders,

I will be offering the SLEEPOVER CLUB to all Fourth Grade students again this year. This is a reading club for Fourth Graders ONLY, which encourages students to read different kinds of books over the course of the school year. Each month, participating students will read one book in a specific genre and, upon completion, have a choice of four responses:

1) Oral: they may present their book to their class during library time;

2) Written: they may write up a short book review; or

3) Artistic: they may draw a map of where the book’s action takes place, a poster, etc. and share it with the class during library time.

4)  Technological:  This year I am offering a new response option:  students may post their book response to my blog.  I have started a page entitled “Book Responses for the Sleepover.”

Giving students four choices of how to respond to their books should encourage all students to participate who wish to.

In early May, after 8 books have been read and accounted for in one of the three ways, there will be a sleepover in the CPS library. In the past twelve years that I have had this club, there have always been about 25 students at the sleepover and 3-4 chaperones (including myself). Here are a few more facts you might like to know about this fun event:

*This is voluntary!

*Students may join late and make up for the months they missed.

*The books do NOT have to be CPS library books.

*It is fine to read the books in a different order than the one I have suggested, as long as all categories are covered.

Here is the schedule I have outlined for the students:

September: Adventure

October: Scary/Mystery

November: Historical Fiction

December: Realistic Fiction

January: Legends/fairy tales/myths

February: Fantasy/Science Fiction

March: Non-Fiction

April: FREE CHOICE!!

Please have your child return the form below to me so I will have a rough idea of who is interested, and call me or stop in if you have any questions. Happy reading!

My child, _______________________, is interested in reading a book a

I read escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s library. A brand new library is opening and twelve lucky kids are chosen to spend the night in it. One of these kids is Kyle Keeley. But when they wake up, they are locked in the library. They have 48 hours to get out and the first person to get out will be famous. If you want to know if Kyle, Akimi and Sierra gets out, read on.

I read king Midsas the golden touch King Midas isn’t a very good god he doesn’t pray like the other gods. But one day he was asked to judge a concert. The people in the contest were Apolo and the little god Pan apolo won all the contest that he entered. Pan was not a very good music player. Apolo was first he played a song so beautiful that everything in the forest came to watch it. Then pan was up he scared away everything in the forest. KIng MidAs screamed Pan wins that was so beautiful. Apolo yelled your going to have donkey ears now. King Midas got donkey ears. He grew his hair long so nobody could see but it grew to long so he went to the royal barber. The barber saw his ears and King Midus said don’t tell anyone. The barber told it to a hole then people found out. One summer night Dynous the god of feasting had a party. At the end of the party in the morning the only one left was synous the guy that’s half horse. King Miduses men got him but when dynous wanted him back. King Midas gave him to Dynous Dynous said thank you very much. I’ll give you any wish you want. King Midus said I want everything I touch to turn gold he went around his castle turning things gold. when it was time to eat he couldn’t so. He went back to Dynous and said please reverse the wish he did and he always prayed and was never mean to any one.

By: Myles Lilly, The Haunting of Hillside School

It was about three kids that got convinced that their school was haunted. They were hearing piano music and there was no piano in the school. They were smelling gingerbread cake but there was no oven in the school. Claire saw a face in the window on the second floor , but there was no ladder. So they went to the room and the person that Claire saw was the ghost that haunted the school, and if you want to now what happen you have to read the book.

  18. Natasha Says:

I have finished the library sleepover program. go me!!!!!!

  19. Caroline Says:

I read The Hobbit for my adventure book. It is about a Bilbo, a hobbit. Bilbo is sitting in his kitchen when 12 dwarfs and a wizard named Gandalf comes into his kitchen and want him to be there burglar. Eventually he agrees and they set off. They’re quest is to get rid of Smaug and take all of his stolen treasures. ( Dwarfs love treasure.) But they meet up with mean big creatures, small smart creatures, stupid giant creatures, and I mix of all of that. They also come across enchanted streams. But they also might starve to death if they run out of food.

Will they live? Will they find the treasure and get rid of Smaug?
Read The Hobbit if you want to find out.

  20. Caroline Says:

I only have to finish one more book before I finish and I’m like thirty pages away from doing that!
